Clyde, North CarolinaClyde is a town located in Haywood County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,324. Geography Clyde is located at 35°31'59" North, 82°54'42" West (35.533021, -82.911686). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,324 people, 547 households, and 373 families residing in the town. The population density is 608.6/km² (1,579.2/mi²). There are 607 housing units at an average density of 279.0/km² (724.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.94% White, 2.49% African American, 0.98% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.83% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 547 households out of which 29.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.82. In the town the population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $33,000, and the median income for a family is $39,531. Males have a median income of $28,542 versus $21,034 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,991. 15.0% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line.
