Clearance Diving Team

The Australian Army Clearance Diving Teams are similar to America's former Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) teams in terms of function and capabilities. They are Navy personnel who are qualified in diving, demolitions, underwater repairs, and Reconaisance mission. They have seen action during the East Timor conflict, covertly mapping Indonesian harbors and beaches, and more recently in the Iraq war where they supported Navy SEALs in mine clearing operations. In the Vietnam War, Clearance Diving Team 3 was awarded the United States Meritorious Unit Commendation for its mine clearence work (see Non-U.S. winners of U.S. gallantry awards).
