Clarion Township is a township located in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 3,273.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 82.0 km² (31.7 mi²). 81.5 km² (31.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 3,273 people, 1,386 households, and 874 families residing in the township. The population density is 40.1/km² (104.0/mi²). There are 1,599 housing units at an average density of 19.6/km² (50.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.04% White, 1.65% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 0.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,386 households out of which 28.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.83. In the township the population is spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 13.4% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.3 males. The median income for a household in the township is $28,818, and the median income for a family is $34,091. Males have a median income of $27,240 versus $16,642 for females. The per capita income for the township is $16,442. 16.7% of the population and 13.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.7% of those under the age of 18 and 9.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
