Clarence Edward Paget

Lord Clarence Edward Paget, British admiral. Born 1811, son of 1st Marquess of Anglesey. Midshipman on HMS Asia at the Battle of Navarino, 1827. Unsuccessful Liberal candidate for Southampton, 1837; Member of Parliament for Sandwich, 1847 to July 1852. Secretary to the Master-General of the Ordnance, 1846-1853. Married 1852 to Martha Stuart, youngest daughter of Admiral Sir Robert Waller Otway, Bt. Commanded HMS Princess Royal (91) in the expedition to the Baltic, 1854. Appointed to receive a good service pension, 1855, and made CB in 1856. Again MP for Southampton from March 1857; Secretary to the Admiralty, June 1859; accepted the Chiltern Hundreds, March 1866. Rear-Admiral of the Red, 1863. Commander-in-Chief in the Meditteranean, 28 April 1866 to April 1869. Died 22 March 1895. Address: 2 Ennismore Place, Knightsbridge, London.
