Claremont Road, Leytonstone

Claremont Road was a road in Leytonstone, London, and the site of a protest from 1992 to 1994 to stop the M11 from being built. About 200 people took residence either in the condemned terraced houses in the road or in the road itself over the two years of the protest. In the end the bill for the UK taxpayer was reported to be over 1 million in police costs alone.
