Clan Burke

The Clan Burke, also known as the de Burgh or Burke family, are descendants of William de Burgh (c.1160?-1204), a Norman adventurer and knight who settled in Ireland. He was probably the elder brother of Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent. The surname is one of the most common in Ireland, particularly in Connacht; it is also spelled Bourke.
