citizens united

Citizens United is a conservative non-profit organization headed by David Bossie. It was formed in 1988 and currently operates offices on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.. It has run ads critical of President Clinton's record on terrorism, ads supporting President Bush's terrorism record, and filed an FEC complaint against Fahrenheit 9/11. The associated Citizens United Foundation is a 501(c)(3) group. Citizens United's stated goals are:

"to reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security."
"to restore the founding fathers' vision of a free nation, guided by the honesty, common sense, and good will of its citizens."

George H. W. Bush has said of the organization, "We will do whatever we can to stop any filthy campaign tactics". George W. Bush sent a letter to 85,697 major donors urging them not to contribute to the group.
