Cie 181 Class

The Cras Iompair ireann 181 Class locomotives were built in 1966 by General Motors and numbered B181 to B192. They were an updated version of the earlier 141 Class locomotives, but with more powerful engines. They were fitted with a GM 8-645E engine of 1100hp, weighed 67tons and had a maximum design speed of 89mph, but were restricted to 75mph in service. 186 was later fitted with a GM 8-567CR engine of 950hp, as used in the 141 Class locomotives. The majority of these locomotives remain in service, though two have been withdrawn (viz. 188 and 191).
