Cie 141 Class

The Cras Iompair ireann 141 Class locomotives were built in 1962-63 by General Motors and numbered B141 to B177. They were an updated version of the earlier 121 Class locomotives, but with cabs at each end. They were fitted with a GM 8-567CR engine of 950hp, weighed 67tons and had a maximum speed of 77mph. Many of these locomotives were later rebuilt with a GM 8-645E engine of 1100hp (the same sort as were used for the rebuilt 201 Class locomotives), though some have since had the original type of engine refitted. The current situation is shown below:
  New Engine Fitted: 142 145 148 149 151 156 157 163 164 166 170 172 173 Old Engine Refitted: 154 167 175
The majority of these locomotives remain in service, though a handful have been withdrawn (viz. 150, 157, 158, 161 and 174).
