name occupied nearly the top rung of
Chrysler
's car line from the
1950s
into the
1990s
. Only the
Chrysler Imperial
outranked it in size and price. The original New Yorkers got Chrysler's
big-block
V8
FirePower
and later
400 cubic inch (6.6 L) B engine
. The
Chrysler Fifth Avenue
began as a submodel of the New Yorker in 1979, after the nameplate was shifted to the formerly mid-size
Dodge Coronet
platform, but with a new squared-off body. The last generation of New Yorkers was
front wheel drive
and was introduced in
1993
as an
LH
Car. The New Yorker saw its last year in
1994
, as an identical twin to the
LHS
