Christine Hamilton

Christine Hamilton is a British television personality and author, and the wife of scandal-ridden former MP Neil Hamilton. Her forceful personality (much more so than that of her husband) made her an easy target for ridicule, as the corruption scandals that cost her husband his parliamentary seat seemed endless. After many years working as secretary to various MPs - latterly her husband - she rose to prominence when she loudly confronted her husband's oppponent Martin Bell on Knutsford Heath during the 1997 general election campaign. After the election the Hamiltons appeared together on Have I Got News For You, an appearance that established her as a chat-show personality. Her own television show was only a short-lived novelty, but she continued to seek the limelight, appearing on a "reality television" programme, I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! in 2002. Along with her husband, Christine Hamilton was arrested in May 2001 by police investigating an alleged rape. Their accuser was later imprisoned for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Christine Hamilton received an honourary membership from the Didsbury Women's Circle in February 2005. Daily Mail columnist Lynda Lee Potter said of her: "With more women like her Britain would never have lost the Empire."
