Christian Institute

The Christian Institute (CI) is a UK-based evangelical Christian registered charity that campaigns to promote Christianity in the United Kingdom. The Institute is notable for its public campaigns opposing gay rights, in particular that in support of Section 28. In 2000 the CI became the first and only group to ever take a case to court for a breach of Section 28. In 2004 they printed a full-page advertisement in The Times newspaper in favour of a controversial amendment to the proposed Civil Partnership Bill (considered by many supporters to be a wrecking amendment). In response, Members of Parliament questioned the CI's charitable status in light of their political campaigning.http://uk.gay.com/headlines/7109
