The Christian Institute

CI
) is a UK-based
evangelical
Christian
registered charity
that campaigns to promote Christianity in the
United Kingdom
. The Institute is notable for its public campaigns opposing
gay rights
, in particular that in support of
Section 28
. In
2000
the CI became the first and only group to ever take a case to court for a breach of
Section 28
. In
2004
they printed a full-page advertisement in
The Times
newspaper in favour of a controversial
amendment
to the proposed
Civil Partnership Bill
(considered by many supporters to be a
wrecking amendment
). In response,
Members of Parliament
questioned the CI's charitable status in light of their political campaigning.
