Christian Adams

Christian Adams ( - September 11, 2001) was a senior German wine promoter. He was deputy director of the quasi-governmental German Wine Institute, Mainz, in charge of the export department, overseeing a multimillion-dollar international promotion program. He began his employment at the German Wine Institute in 1989, rising to deputy director in 1995. He graduated from the German winemaking school at Geisenheim with a degree in oenology, and from its American counterpart, the University of California, Davis, with a marketing degree. He died at age 37 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack on board United Airlines flight 93. He was going to San Francisco to promote the German 2000 vintage at a trade show. He was in New York for a similar show, sponsored by the Institute's New York based German Wine Information Bureau, that Monday, September 10. A resident of Mainz, Germany, he was survived by his wife, Silkie, and children, Lukas, 7, and Theresa, 5, all of Bad Kreuznach; his father, Dr. Karl Adams of Neustadt, a retired Rheinland-Pfalz wine official; his mother, Erika, of Neustadt; a sister, Ulrike Weyand of Ingelheim; and a brother, Peter, of Los Gatos, California.
