Chris Bonington

Sir Christian John Storey Bonington (born August 6 1934 in Hampstead), is a British mountaineer. He is one of the most prolific and successful mountaineers of the 20th century and was knighted in 1996. His career has included 19 expeditions to the Himalaya including four to Mount Everest. He has written 15 books and made many television appearances. In January 2005 he succeeded Princess Alexandra of Kent as Chancellor of Lancaster University.
