Chinese Hamster Ovary Cell

Chinese Hamster Ovary cells (CHO cells) are often used in biological and medical research. They were introduced in the 1960s and are used in a cultured monolayer in petri dishes. They require the amino acid proline in its culture medium; this property makes them ideal for genetics research. CHO cells are used in studies of genetics, toxicity screening, nutrition and gene expression.
