Chin Peng

Chin Peng (born 1922 in Sitiawan), leader of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) for many years. He was sometimes known as "The Plen". He gained notoriety for being the leader of the MCP armed insurgency which led to a large number of civilian casualties in contrast and comparison to Mao Zedong's policy of the Eight Points of Attention. He was exiled during the Malayan Emergency from 1948 and remains so until this day. Recently, he has applied to be permitted back into Malaysia, and a complex legal issue arises out of this. His hearing whether to permit him or not is scheduled to occur on May 25, 2005.
