Children Of Heaven

Children of Heaven is an 1997 iranian film. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998. Director Majid Majidi was able to get very natural performances from amateur child actors. His films often highlight moments in lives of ordinary Iranians that in retrospect start to seem remarkable and touching, like a documentary of little lives. This particular film, for example, is a story of a brother and sister and their adventures over a pair of shoes. In the process, the film also touches upon the more serious subject of the political situation in Iran. The movie points out, that even small joys and sorrows can mean all the world to a child.
