Children Of A Lesser GodChildren of a Lesser God is a 1986 film which tells the story of a speech teacher at a school for the deaf who falls in love with a sign language-using Deaf woman. It stars William Hurt, Marlee Matlin, Piper Laurie and Philip Bosco. The movie was adapted by Hesper Anderson and James Carrington (uncredited) from the play by Mark Medoff. It was directed by Randa Haines. It won the Academy Award for Best Actress (Marlee Matlin) and was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (William Hurt), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Piper Laurie), Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. Marlee Matlin is the youngest actress to receive the Best Actress Oscar. She is deaf in real life. The Movie is what Marlee plays a woman named Sarah, she works at the school for the Deaf. There was the new teacher came to the school, James Leeds(William Hurt), he knew lot of sign language and fell in love with it. He wanted to convince Sarah that she need to be out in hearing world where the rest of people is. She refused to step out of Deaf world. But they grew a love relationship between them throughout the movie. They argue about the hearing and Deaf worlds. James really want to help Marlee to adapt into the hearing world but Sarah truly wanted to stay in Deaf world. The movie was made in 1986. Today, Marlee is still famous as an actress and guest starred in varied TV shows and make charities for deaf and hard of hearing people throughout the world.
