Chester Kallman

Chester Kallman (7 January 192118 January 1975) was an American poet, librettist, and translator, best known for his collaborations with Igor Stravinsky Kallman was born in Brooklyn. He studied at Brooklyn College and at the University of Michigan. He was praised for his volumes of poetry, notably Absent and Present (1963) Together with W.H. Auden, Kallman wrote the libretto for Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress; they also worked together on two librettos for Henze, Elegy for Young Lovers and The Bassarids, and on a number of libretto translations. Kallman also translated the libretto of The Tuscan Players for Chvez, Monteverdi's Poppea , and Verdi's Falstaff. Kallman, Chester Kallman, Chester
