Chatham CollegeChatham College is a small (about 500 students) liberal arts college located in the neighborhood of Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. An all-women's institution, the campus is considered to be small and safe. Chatham was founded in 1869 by Reverend William Trimble Beatty, and was initially situated in a mansion on 5th Avenue in the neighborhood of Shadyside. Chatham College today is composed of buildings and grounds from a number of former private mansions. Among Chatham's alumni is biologist and zoologist Rachel Carson (Class of 1929), after whom the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham is named. The RCI, as it is known, promotes understanding of environmental issues through conferences, lectures, discussion panels, and other methods. External links
