Charles Pillsbury

Charlie Pillsbury is a mediator, lawyer, and community activist in New Haven, Connecticut, where he is the executive director of Community Mediation, Inc. He is a member of the family which founded the Pillsbury company. He is also the basis of the comic strip charcter Doonesbury (a combination of the Yale student nickname "doone" and his surname.) Pillsbury became actively involved in politics when he worked on the presidential campaign of Democrat George McGovern in 1972 in Minnesota. This surprised some because his father George was a Republican state senator and was actively supporting Nixon. Pillsbury ran for Congress as a Green Party candidate in Connecticut's Third Congressional District in 2002.
