Charles James Barclay

Charles James Barclay U.S. naval officer; born in Philadelphia, Sept. 8, 1843; graduated at the Naval Academy in 1863; ensign, 1863; master, 1966; lieutenantcommander, 1868; commander, 1881; captain, 1896; rear-admiral, 1903; retired 1905. He took part in the capture of the Confederate cruiser Florida in Bahia, Brazil; on board the Kearsarge 1865-66; commandant of the Naval War Academy, 1900; successively captain of the navy yards at Boston and Puget Sound.
