Cebit

CeBIT is one of the world's most important computer expos. It is held in Hanover, Germany each spring and is a barometer of information technology. With an exhibition area of 400,000 m² and 700,000 visitors, it is bigger than COMDEX. The name CeBIT stands for Centrum der Bro- und Informationstechnik - Center for office and information technology - and was traditionally the CeBIT part of the Hanover Fair, a big industry trade show held every year. However, in the 1980s the information technology and telecommunications part grew so much that it was split into a separate trade show starting 1986, held four weeks before the Hanover Fair. As the CeBIT continued to grow quickly and was becoming too big on its own, it was decided to concentrate on the professional market, while the home and entertainment market was split into a separate show, the CeBIT home, planned to be biennial. However, after being held twice (in 1996 and 1998), it was discontinued. Since 1999 the CeBIT sponsor Deutsche Messe AG has organized trade shows outside of Germany bearing the CeBIT name. The first CeBIT in the USA was held in June 2003. The location in 2005 was at coordinates . Dates:
  • CeBIT 2005: 10.03. - 16.03.2005
  • CeBIT 2006: 09.03. - 15.03.2006
  • CeBIT 2007: 15.03. - 21.03.2007
