Catholic League (Us)

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is an American civil rights group, with the mission of defending the civil and religious rights of Catholics in the United States based on the First Amendment. Founded in 1973 by Jesuit Father Virgil C. Blum SJ, it is headquartered in New York. Its efforts are coordinated by a Board of Directors under Mr. William A. Donohue, President. Although it is chiefly concerned with protecting civil rights, the Catholic League's conservitive stances on abortion, separation of church and state, and other issues often puts it at odds with other civil rights groups such as the ACLU. The League issues a journal, Catalyst, as well as books/brochures and an annual Report on Anti-Catholicism.
