Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers are one of the most famous rugby league teams in England. They are based in Castleford in West Yorkshire. Their first Season was 1926-27 but there was also a Castleford team from 1896-97 to 1905-06 inclusive. Their colours are black and orange. They are sometimes known as 'Cas' or 'Classy Cas', though local rivals Featherstone Rovers refer to them as 'Ginners' (Ginner is a Yorkshire version of 'ginger' a reference to the orange on their shirts). They play at Wheldon Road in Castleford, which following the Tigers theme is often called 'The Jungle'. When Super League was suggested Castleford were supposed to merge with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Featherstone Rovers to form 'Calder'. This was strongly resisted by all sets of supporters but enthusiasts for mergers point out that while Wakefield district is a hotbed of rugby league it does not have the population to sustain three sides. They were relegated from Super League at the end of the 2004 season.
