Castle Rock Entertainment

Castle Rock Entertainment was a motion picture and television studio formed in 1987. The president and co-founder was Martin Shafer. Other founders included director Rob Reiner and entertainment mogul Alan Horn. Reiner named the company in honor of a fictional town from the works of Stephen King after the success of the film Stand by Me, which was based on a short story by King. In 1993, Castle Rock was acquired by Turner Broadcasting System, which was eventually merged into Time Warner.
