Caroline Spelman

Caroline Spelman (born 4 May 1958) is a Conservative politician in the United Kingdom and has been MP for Meriden since 1997. Educated at Herts and Essex Grammar School for Girls and Queen Mary College, University of London (BA First Class European Studies). She is married and has three children Spelman was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for International Development by Iain Duncan Smith in 2001 and remained in that post until his departure as Conservative Party leaer. His sucessor Michael Howard initially left her out of a slimmed down Shadow Cabinet but appointed her as a front bench spokesman on Environmental affairs working for Theresa May. However, in March 2004 she re-entered the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Local and Devolved Government Affairs succeeding David Curry.
