Carlstadt, New JerseyCarlstadt is a borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 5,917. Geography Carlstadt is located at 40°50'11" North, 74°4'52" West (40.836473, -74.081237). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 11.0 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.2 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.62% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,917 people, 2,393 households, and 1,593 families residing in the borough. The population density is 578.4/km² (1,496.4/mi²). There are 2,473 housing units at an average density of 241.7/km² (625.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 88.90% White, 1.37% African American, 0.08% Native American, 6.19% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 2.13% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 7.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,393 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.04. In the borough the population is spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.4 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $55,058, and the median income for a family is $62,040. Males have a median income of $46,540 versus $36,804 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $28,713. 6.1% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line.
