mercenary who fought for the
British
in the
American Revolutionary War
. Colonel von Donop commanded the Musketeer Regiment von Donop, from
Hesse-Kassel
. He was fatally wounded attempting the capture of
Fort Mifflin
in the
Battle of Red Bank
,
New Jersey
, and died three days later on
October 25
,
1777
.
