) is an
American
jazz
drummer
. Before finishing college he had begun to work as
Freddie Hubbard
's drummer, a position he held for eight years. He was later a member of
The Message
and led
Carl Allen and the Manhattan Projects
. He has also recorded with
George Coleman
,
Art Farmer
,
Benny Green
, and
Jackie McLean
. In 1988 Allen and
Vincent Herring
founded
Big Apple Productions
, which produced several albums featuring young jazz performers.
