Car Co-op

A Car co-op (also known as car share or car club) is a transport scheme whereby drivers share use of a pool of cars or vehicles on a cooperative basis. It can be for profit or non-profit. A car co-op is very comparable to that of a time share resort. A group of people share a resource or in this case a car. Most people do not need a car all the time or cannot afford a second vehicle. A car co-op/car sharing would work this way: A member requires the use of a car. They telephone or use the internet to contact the car co-op/car share organization. GPS and login technologies allow members to reserve an available vehicle. Car co-op/car share vehicles can be kept at a central site, but also located throughout neighborhoods where members live, optimally no more than two to four blocks away. Specialty vehicles, such as minivans or pick-up trucks, may be available at locations in nearby neighborhoods.
