Canadian Forces Base Comox

Canadian Forces Base Comox is an airbase located on Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is host to 19 Wing, which is in turn comprised of 407 Maritime Patrol Squadron, 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron, 19 Air Maintenance Squadron, and a number of other organizations. It is also the location of the Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue, where all "SAR" Techs, or para-rescue specialists in the Canadian Forces, undergo the majority of their training. The base has it's origins in 1942, when an airbase was constructed to guard against any possible Japanese threat to North America. The Royal Air Force was the original occupant, with the Royal Canadian Air Force taking possession in 1943.
