Camp Shelby

Camp Shelby is a military post near Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In recent decades it has been under control of the Mississippi Army National Guard. For many years it was used primarily for the annual two weeks of "Inactive Duty Training" served by active National Guard units, which is popularly referred to as "National Guard Summer Camp". Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq it has been largely used as a staging and training area where National Guard units being mobilized for a tour of active service in Iraq undergo specific training and re-orientation to the active military.
