Geography to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 72.7 km² (28.1 mi²). 72.1 km² (27.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.78% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,466 people, 504 households, and 404 families residing in the town. The population density is 20.3/km² (52.6/mi²). There are 518 housing units at an average density of 7.2/km² (18.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.23% White, 1.09% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.20% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 504 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.2% are married couples living together, 3.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% are non-families. 14.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.08.
