Caitlin 'Cait' O'Riordan

) was the bass player for
Irish
punk
/
folk
band,
The Pogues
from
1983
-
1986
. She appeared on the group's first two albums
Red Roses for Me
and
Rum, Sodomy And The Lash
(singing on "I'm A Man You Don't Meet Every Day"), as well as the soundtrack to
Alex Cox
's film,
Sid And Nancy
. The Pogues' most commerically-successful song, "
Fairytale Of New York
" was originally envisioned as a duet between Cait and
Shane MacGowan
- though it was eventually recorded some time later with
Kirsty MacColl
on vocals. She left the band in
1986
to marry singer
Elvis Costello
, though the couple were later divorced. O'Riordan is currently bassist for ex-Pogue
Phil Chevron
's band
The Radiators From Space
. She also toured with the Pogues in
2004
for the first time in 18 years.
