Cache Valley
The
Cache Valley
is a broad arid
agricultural
valley in northern
Utah
and southern
Idaho
in the
United States
. It extends approximately 50 mi (80 km) north from
Logan, Utah
to north of
Preston, Idaho
along the west side of the
Bear River Mountains
, the northernmost extension of the
Wasatch Range
, and along the east side of the
Wellsville Mountains
. It is largely drained and
irrigated
by the
Bear River
and its tributaries, in the watershed of the
Great Salt Lake
. In the early
19th century
the valley was inhabited by
Shoshone
and other
Native Americans
. In the late
1840s
the valley was the site of early
Mormon
settlement. In
1863
it was the site of the
Bear River Massacre
.
