Cabery, IllinoisCabery is a village located in both Kankakee County, Illinois and Ford County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 263. Geography Cabery is located at 40°59'41" North, 88°12'18" West (40.994715, -88.205050). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. The county line between Kankakee County and Ford County runs right through the middle of town on Main Street. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 263 people, 99 households, and 70 families residing in the village. The population density is 290.1/km² (751.1/mi²). There are 118 housing units at an average density of 130.2/km² (337.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.34% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.90% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 2.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 99 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% are non-families. 23.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.13. In the village the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.9 males. The median income for a household in the village is $37,000, and the median income for a family is $39,375. Males have a median income of $36,719 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,839. 11.6% of the population and 7.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.1% of those under the age of 18 and 13.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. Commerce There is very little commerce in Cabery. There is a post office, a small hardware store, and the Cabery Bar and Grill. There is also a grain elevator in Cabery. Recreation Cabery does have a park that has a lighted softball field, basketball courts, and a playground. The park is quite nice considering the size of the community. Many if not all of the lights for the softball field were donated from the old Comiskey Park. There is also a very small pond called the Clay Hole which is quite dirty and unsuitable for swimming. However very small fish can be caught in the Clay Hole. Both bluegills and very small Largemouth bass can be caught there. External links
