C. D. Darlington

Professor Cyril Dean Darlington (19 December 1903 - 26 March 1981) was a British biologist, is credited with discovering the mechanics of chromosome recombination and noting its importance in evolution, he is often refered to as the 'Newton' of cytology. Darlington was born in Chorley, Lancashire. He took a bachelor degree at Wye College, Kent, and afterwards worked at the John Innes Horticultural Institution in Merton. Darlington was elected a title="[[Fellow of the Royal Society">Fellow] of the Royal Society in March] [1941]. With another British biologist Fisher] Darlington established the journal [[Heredity (journal)|Heredity.
