Bws IntrepidThe BWS (CV-06) Intrepid is a fictional carrier belonging to the Union of Border Worlds in the computer game Wing Commander IV, The Price of Freedom. After Colonel Christopher Blair is forced to defect from the Terran Confederation due to the acts of corrupt officers he winds up on this carrier. Also defecting are Captain William Eisen, Major Todd "Maniac" Marshall, Lieutenant Winston "Vagabond" Chang and Lieutenant Troy "Catscratch" Carter. Originally the Intrepid was an obsolete Durango-class destroyer, but she was later converted to a carrier by the Border Worlds after they acquired the ship from the Confederation. Intrepid's complement of fighters consists of Banshee light fighters, Vindicator medium fighters and Avenger bombers, but it's later expanded by the addition of Dragon heavy fighters and, possibly, Bearcat interceptors. Shortly before Blair's defection the Intrepid is ambushed by a Confederation heavy cruiser, the TCS Achilles. The two ships fought a running battle across several star systems before the Intrepid forces managed to destroy the cruiser. During the battle the bridge and upper decks of the Intrepid are badly hit, killing two thirds of the crew onboard, but the ship remains operational and with Border Worlds resources being very scarce, the Intrepid is kept in service. The Control room (CIC) is adapted to function as a bridge and the dingy, dark hold is used as berths. From the Intrepid Blair succeeds in uncovering Geoffrey Tolwyn's plans for a world cleansed of all people not physically up to the Admiral's standard. On their way to Earth to avert a declaration of war between the Confederation and the Border Worlds, Blair and the pilots from the Intrepid eventually ensure the destruction of the TCS Vesuvius that was controlled by Tolwyn's forces. After the crisis between the Border Worlds and the Confederation is resolved, the Intrepid is repaired and refitted as a training carrier, possibly around Saturn. Physically, the Intrepid is an H-shaped carrier, with the small launchdeck in the middle. The Intrepid is prone to damage, and since the carrier only has weak turrets to defend itself, escorting fighters need to make sure that enemies do not get to close. Intrepid
