Buzzards Bay, MassachusettsBuzzards Bay is a census-designated place and village in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,549. Geography Buzzards Bay is located at 41°45'5" North, 70°36'49" West (41.751364, -70.613563). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.6 km² (3.0 mi²). 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 32.88% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,549 people, 1,216 households, and 795 families residing in the village. The population density is 692.1/km² (1,793.4/mi²). There are 1,572 housing units at an average density of 306.5/km² (794.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.49% White, 1.01% African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.99% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,216 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.78. In the village the population is spread out with 15.9% under the age of 18, 23.0% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 121.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 123.5 males. The median income for a household in the village is $39,750, and the median income for a family is $42,165. Males have a median income of $38,702 versus $28,801 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,304. 9.7% of the population and 8.4% of families are below the poverty line.
