Burkhard Of Austria

Burkhard was Margrave in the Bavarian Eastern Mark (marchia orientalis), the territory that was later to become the core of Austria, from about 960 to 976, when the territory was given to Leopold of Babenberg. Next to nothing is known about him. (The German name for Austria was only first mentioned as Ostarrichi in a famous document in 996.)
