BundjugendBUNDjugend is the youth group of the German Federation for the Enviroment and the Protection of Nature (Bund fr Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland", BUND). Activities As the youth organization of of BUND, BUNDjugend is oriented towards both action and education on issues such as globalization, WTO, GATT, etc., which has led them to some points of contact with ATTAC. As with the rest of BUND, they are also involved in issues related to genetic engineering, nuclear power, and renewable energy. In contrast to NABU / NAJU), they emphasize "environmental protection" as opposed to "the protection of nature". Organization and structure Name The name BUNDjugend is used throughout Germany, except in the German state of Bavaria; the Bavarian group is called Jugend im Bund Naturschutz ("Youth in the Protection-of-Nature Federation ") Membership All BUND members under the age of 25 are automatically BUNDjugend members; there are no extra membership fees. Some state organizations allow membership for two more years (that is, under 27); this decision is made by the assemblies of the BUNDjugend state organizations, which set out the BUNDjugend directives. Organization BUNDjugend is organized in a federal organization with its office in Berlin, and sixteen state organizations with their own offices. Some state organizations – Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony, possibly some others – exist only on paper as of 2005. The Bundesjugendleitung (federal youth leadership), the federal steering committee of BUNDjugend, is designated annually at the federal conference of delegates, to which every state organization can send five delegates. The Landesjugendleitung (steering committee on the state level) is elected by the members of the state organization. The Bundesjugendleitung is supported by full-time employees in the federal office.
