Buck RinehartDana G. "Buck" Rinehart was born in 1946, and was Republican mayor of Columbus, Ohio, from 1983-1991. Having served in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, Rinehart attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, earning an B.A. in Political Science. He later attended Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude. Rinehart began his career as treasurer of Franklin County, OH, from 1976-1983. Rinehart was persuaded by Republican Party insiders to run for mayor, to replace outgoing longtime Democratic mayor Tom Moody. Rinehart narrowly won the election. His term as mayor was characterized by a downtown office boom, with the construction of many skyscrapers. The city also experienced a period of rapid growth and subsequent suburban sprawl. Rinehart was often lampooned by the local media for being weak and not have control over the city's day to day functions. A scandal broke in 1991, when he was accused of sexual harassment by his family's babysitter. Rinehart was not charged. Rinehart currently works at the law firm of Rinehart, Howarth, Rishel & Kopech in Columbus.
