Buchanan Dam

Buchanan Dam was constructed in 1935-1939 and was the first dam to be completed in the chain of Texas Highland Lakes on the Colorado River of Texas. It was named for U.S. Rep. J.P. Buchanan, who was involved in funding the project after the original contractor declared bankruptcy. The dam forms Lake Buchanan and is used for generating hydroelectric power and for flood control.
