Bruce Cumings

Bruce Cumings is a historian, and professor at the University of Chicago. His research focus is on 20th century international history, U.S.- East Asian relations, East Asian political economy, modern Korean history, and American foreign relations. Although Professor Cumings has been criticized for a "left leaning view on East Asia" and that "his stance is further characterised by sometimes rather uncritical adoption of nationalistic Korean interpretations of historical facts" he is certainly one of the most influential experts on the region. One of his merits lies in the thorough analysis of Western perceptions of Korea.
