Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 162.4 km² (62.7 mi²). 162.4 km² (62.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.03% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,184 people, 862 households, and 712 families residing in the township. The population density is 25.8/km² (66.7/mi²). There are 917 housing units at an average density of 5.6/km² (14.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 69.50% White, 24.69% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.78% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. 5.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 862 households out of which 38.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.9% are married couples living together, 5.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.3% are non-families. 14.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.08. In the township the population is spread out with 14.4% under the age of 18, 16.1% from 18 to 24, 43.7% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 248.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 294.4 males. The median income for a household in the township is $40,119, and the median income for a family is $42,022. Males have a median income of $25,023 versus $21,389 for females. The per capita income for the township is $11,611. 7.1% of the population and 5.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.2% of those under the age of 18 and 1.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
