Brooklyn Technical High SchoolBrooklyn Technical High School is one of three primary high schools making up the specialized science circuit in New York City, the other two being Stuyvesant High School and the Bronx High School of Science. "Brooklyn Tech," as the school is commonly known, has the largest enrollment of the three schools. Extracurricular Activities Brooklyn Tech has many after-school clubs, and many PSAL teams. One such club is BTHSnews, which was founded by students seeking to improve the school's communication with the students. BTHSnews BTHSnews.org is the school's student-run website. It was created to fill the void that Brooklyn Tech's official news paper "The Survey" left by not conveying news, and not doing it in a timely fashion. While the site was originally intended to complement the school's official paper it has since replaced it until such a time that a new teacher takes the job of running the Survey. While the club that feeds the website operates from within the school the website does not. The removes the problem of political and administrative pressures on what content can be served. It's noted that one issue (out of the very few paper put out each year) of The Survey had every paper recycled on the day of arrival because the principal didn't agree with an article. While the school's administration can politely suggest changes in the website and it's content the power rests in the students (and ultimately the club's staff) to decide what to do. This separation protects the students and their writings. Despite this protection, the number of controversial articles written by students to be posted remains quite low despite events and conditions that could warrant such articles. External links
