Brimful Of Asha

"Brimful of Asha" is an East-West Fusion pop-rock song by the British band Cornershop. A remix by Norman Cook became a hit in 1997 on the United States and UK charts. The lyrics are a tribute to Asha Bhosle, the Indian pop singer/film-score vocalist. To understand the song, one must be aware of the history of film culture in India. Since its introduction, Indian Films relied heavily on song-and-dance numbers attributable to Broadway musicals. Almost always, the singing was performed by background singers while the actors and actresses lip-sync. Asha Bhosle was one of these background singers who has sang over 20,000 songs, finally making it to the United States and the UK in 1997 where she won an MTV music award and later recorded the song "Code Red" which appears on the soundtrack for the movie Bulletproof Monk.
