Bridgehampton, New YorkBridgehampton is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,381. Bridgehampton is in the Town of Southampton. Geography Bridgehampton is located at 40°55'59" North, 72°18'29" West (40.933182, -72.307987). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 29.0 km² (11.2 mi²). 24.2 km² (9.3 mi²) of it is land and 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.37% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,381 people, 627 households, and 369 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 57.1/km² (147.8/mi²). There are 1,494 housing units at an average density of 61.8/km² (159.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 78.86% White, 17.38% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 3.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 627 households out of which 19.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.1% are non-families. 33.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.82. In the CDP the population is spread out with 17.7% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 33.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.0 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $54,896, and the median income for a family is $74,583. Males have a median income of $50,865 versus $32,778 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $43,781. 8.5% of the population and 6.8% of families are below the poverty line.
