Brian Haw

Brian Haw has staged a one-man political protest against UK and US government policy towards Iraq since June 1,2001 - from economic sanctions and the continued bombing of Iraq to the 'war on terror' and invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq - policies that he maintains have caused enormous suffering to the civilian population. Brian Haw's protest has taken place in Parliament Square, London. He has embarrassed the Labour government of Tony Blair to the extent that they have proposed to pass legislation banning such protests in Parliament Square, which is now passing through Parliament (Feb 2005). Support for Brian Haw's actions have come from figures such as veteran Labour politician, Tony Benn MP. See Brian's support web-site: http://www.parliament-square.org.uk
